The type of photography session that is the most popular towards the end of the year is by far family sessions. I think the weather in West Texas has a lot to do with this since we finally start seeing some more pleasant temperatures in the last quarter, not to mention all the trees changing colors and shedding their leaves makes for beautiful family portraits.
This particular family session at the end of December was no less than perfect! Casi even had a little surprise that she wanted to announce during her family photos, a new baby to welcome into their family. We went with what I call a traditional pregnancy announcement so as to incorporate this easily into their family portrait session. No special photography props, flat lays or themes, just mom, dad, big brother and the growing bundle of joy to take center stage as I document this fleeting time in their lives. However, I will say that I almost always ask my pregnancy announcement clients to bring their most recent sonogram to the session so we can be sure and grab a few shots with the only photo you may have of your newest little one before he/she enters this world. I have an arsenal of romantic poses in my mind that work beautifully for pregnancy announcements and incorporating the sonogram into some of these poses always turns out stunning! Casi chose a dazzling, flowy velvet dress in a gorgeous shade of burgundy paired with taupe ankle boots and dainty jewelry for an altogether perfect Texas southern look. Her partner and son each wore cowboy boots, complete with jeans and belt, topped with grey for her son and a patterned blue for Colby. These three looked so great together on camera, from the precisely coordinated outfits to their love for one another that so easily flowed between them as our session progressed. I am so pleased with this family session and am honored to capture these precious moments for another growing family.

Yes, I will 100% ask you to slow dance in the middle of the woods during your couples or family session. Watching these two quietly connect for a small moment at the end of our session was so magical. Keep scrolling to the end of this set of images to see the cutest most excited big brother ever. The first thing he said to me when we met was: “My mama has a baby in her belly. I think it’s a girl and her name will be Pineapple.”
He was right on one account, I’ll let your imagination tell you which part of his statement turned out to be true!
